The core of Status Quo formed when school chums  Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster started their first band in 1962. The group has gone through many changes over the years. Riding the psychedelic wave, they scored their first hit with "Pictures of Matchstick Men." Many UK hits were to follow as the band adopted a heavier sound, but this song remains a classic of the late 60s psych-rock era.
