NEW MUSIC MONDAY
Madison McFerrin
Kristine England
May 15, 2023
In 2018, Pitchfork declared Madison McFerrin a rising star, and her star continues to rise with her full-length debut, I Hope You Can Forgive Me. Known for her a cappella singing (like father Bobby) as well as her blend of electro-pop, jazz, and soul, she’s been releasing music and performing at prestigious venues like Lincoln Center. Her songs have been featured in Broad City and Random Acts of Flyness. The first single off the album, “(Please Don’t) Leave Me Now,” was written after McFerrin and her partner were involved in a near-fatal car accident. The Guardian describes her new album as “an elegant and intricate debut…gorgeous, atmospheric – at times spine-tinglingly so – and undeniably cool.”
