Greg Loiacono steps out from The Mother Hips, his band of 30-plus years, for the third time on his latest solo recording, Giving It All Away. Channeling the smooth sounds of classic 70s R&B, he explores the range of emotions love brings: joy and pain, regret and redemption. “When your heart breaks, it also opens up,” he explains. “... sometimes you need that pain and loss to make room for growth and joy. Sometimes you need to let go in order to figure out what’s worth holding onto.”

Much of the album was recorded live at Spacecamp Studios in Occidental, CA with Loiacono on guitar and lead vocals, Scott Hirsch (Hiss Golden Messenger) who produced the record and also plays acoustic guitar, Dave Schools on bass, Danny Eisenberg (Counting Crows, Jonathan Richmond) on Hammond organ, Michael Urbano on drums (Sheryl Crow, John Hiatt) and backup singers Vicki Randle (Mavis Staples, Aretha Franklin) and Kelly McFarling.

The album also features a cover of the Genesis hit “That’s All,” remarkably transformed into a funky rendition that evokes the vibe of Curtis Mayfield. This record is definitely worth a listen.
