In a world where a plethora of hip hop releases sound formulaic and uninspired, it’s rare to hear real artistry. Brother May is songwriter, producer and MC from London whose long-time collaboration with Mica Levi, the experimental composer and fellow-Curl collective member, bears fruit once again. Pattern with Force is his second full-length outing, again co-produced with Levi, and offers atmospheric electronica to contrast with his earnest vocal delivery. It’s truly refreshing to hear an artist who commands attention with integrity and style in a genre that all too often sounds like it was programmed by a bored AI.
