Red Axes

Loud

Sometimes, it's a bit psychedelic, other times kinda funky. It's usually got some grit. Red Axes' latest has been compared to the Velvet Underground, Warmduscher, and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Seemingly incongruous influences keep the listeners on their toes.

Lawrence English and Stephen Vitiello

Trinity

This third collaboration between Lawrence English and Stephen Vitiello, Trinity boasts several guests as diverse as Chris Abrahams from (IM favorites) experimental jazz trio The Necks, Brendan Canty (Fugazi), electronic composers Aki Onda, and sound artists Steve Roden and Marina Rosenfeld. The result is a critically acclaimed sonic feast, considered one of the best ambient albums of the year.

Crasher

Odditi Populaire

The long-awaited follow-up to the band's 2001 mixtape, the Montreal synth-punk group Crasher has released its full-length debut. The title pays homage to the celebrated warehouse/art space that gave birth to the group, a place that is no more.

Sister Ray Davies

Holy Island

I've finally come to terms with the fact that I'm a sucker for shoegaze. Adam Morrow and Jamie Sego are based in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, but their debut is a concept album about a tiny island near Bamburgh Castle (Bebbanburg for fans of the Last Kingdom) off the northeast coast of England. Unexpected.

5 Seconds of Summer

Everyone’s A Star!

After taking time to release a few solo projects, Australia's 5SOS returns, taking a hard look at its past and the "boyband" status thrust upon them by the music industry. They are reclaiming their identity with hooks, energy, and confidence.
