John Glacier

Like A Ribbon

Entirely unexpected is how I would characterize my reaction to the dreamy electronica backing London sensation, John Glacier. Her debut is sending critics over the moon, and rightfully so.

FEATURED TRACK: “Home”

Drop Nineteens

1991 / Delaware

Boston’s shoegaze heroes made waves in the 90s. The tracks from this record are culled from demo tapes made during the early years and the group’s debut Delaware, now remixed and remastered, and which Pitchfork notes was, “a foundational album, a real piece of work.”

FEATURED TRACK: "Daymom"

Yawning Balch

Volume Three

It seems likely that we’ll always feature Yawning Balch in the Monthly picks, as long as Bob Balch and co. continue to offer up life-giving, soul-enriching heavy psych.

FEATURED TRACK: “The Taos Hum — Part 1”

The Delines

Mr. Luck and Ms. Doom

Portland, OR group The Delines releases its fourth album of strange tales accompanied by well-crafted alt-country. Vocalist Amy Boone (formerly of the Austin-based The Damnations), is often singled-out, with Glide Magazine gushing,”Boone’s voice has us continually returning for more.”

FEATURED TRACK: “Maureen's Gone Missing”

The Moles

Composition Book

The Moles’ leader Richard Davies has been compared to Lou Reed, and considering his snappy wordplay, the description isn’t entirely far-fetched. Northern Transmissions notes the songs are, “the sublimation of made-at-home indie rock fuzz and whir with a decidedly poppy make-up.”

FEATURED TRACK: "Rattlesnakes, Vampires, Horse Tribes and Rocket Science"
