Rosie Lowe
Lover, Other
Rosie Lowe is an English soul singer widely praised for her voice and her eclecticism.Throughout her new album, Lover, Other, she moves from mood to mood with stylistic changes that feel very organic. Critics agree. The Guardian notes that the singer’s third album “slinks from bossa nova to breakbeats with aplomb…Rather than coming across as genre-hopping confusion, Lover, Other is remarkably self-assured and cohesive.”
FEATURED TRACK: "In My Head"
Andy Wood
Lover, Other
Andy Wood knows a thing or two about strings. He won awards for his mandolin-playing at a young age and toured with his father and cousin, performing at bluegrass competitions. He switched to guitar is his teens and delved into rock and jazz. He brings all of these influences to bear on his latest work, Charisma -- an 11-track collection of instrumentals, featuring guests Joe Bonamassa and Brent Mason. Yes, the featured track is a solo cover of the Alice in Chains tune.
FEATURED TRACK: “Rooster”
Hamish Hawk
A Firmer Hand
After two well-received albums, Hamish Hawk is back with his third, and the praise is being heaped upon it from many corners. The Scottish singer is known for his wordcraft, and he doesn’t disappoint here. Clash touts his work as “lyrically deep and musically deft, dark in corners but jaunty and theatrical in others.” Louder than War praises Hawk’s “brave, fully formed, and wholly successful artistic statement.”
FEATURED TRACK: “Men Like Wire “
Coco & Clair Clair
Girl
Coco & Clair Clair are a cloud rap duo from Atlanta, creating caustically funny songs with a hazy vibe. Dreamy, girlish vocals belie the acerbic humor of lyrics that aren’t afraid to dis an unknown (to the audience at least) protagonist. Pitchfork confesses, “cloud pop-rap stars Coco & Clair Clair’s barbed quips and cheeky attitude let you know they really care.”
FEATURED TRACK: “Everyone But You”
Los Bitchos
Talkie Talkie
I let Rosie G. pick the track for New Music Monday, but I like this one too, so more Los Bitchos for the “perfect soundtrack to the last few days of summer.” (Far Out)
FEATURED TRACK: “Talkie Talkie, Charlie Charlie”
